Photo Challenge

1. Reflection:
This is supposed to be a reflection of a sunset. I would've liked to re-take this picture with a cleaner guitar, but i didn't have the time.
2. Stack of Books:
This was a stack of books in an upstairs room at my dad's restaurant. It was hard to take because there's no electricity upstairs, so my camera couldn't focus on a the subject. I really liked having the advantage of this room because everyone else took pictures of books at their house or something but I had this awesome room full of books and toilets to work with.
3. Undergarment:
Yes, this is a dog in underwear. Her name is Betty, and she was not harmed in the making of this photo.
4. Repose:
Do I really need to say anything about this picture? It's perfect.
5. Bauble:
Hippos are cool. These are actually super precious because they're my friend's parent's, who got them from one of their parent's hippo collection after they passed away. This picture wasn't difficult to take, but I'm not sure if I like that only the front hippos are in focus.
6. Mode of transport:
This is a bike that's hanging from the ceiling at my dad's restaurant. I set my camera to bulb, and I zoomed in and out while i held the shutter open. I still don't really know if i like this picture or not.
7.Spooky:
Once again, this was in the upstairs part of my dad's restaurant. Paige came to Hope one Saturday and braved her way down this scary hallway for me. She ended up wanting my brother to go down with her, but I think it added to the picture.
8. Liquid:
This is another one that Paige helped me with. It's just food coloring, baking soda, and vinegar. She poured while I took the picture. I really think it's cool that there's motion blur but everything is still in focus.
9. Meal:
This is from Thanksgiving. It's obviously not my plate, because we all know I'd  have a mental breakdown if i was forced to eat something like this. It's not that interesting, but my cousin did rip his ham in half and stick it in his potatoes and stuffing before I could take the picture so there's that.

@ Tailgaters

f/2.8
1/15
ISO 200

This is a car at my dad's restaurant that I just kinda snapped a picture of. I wasn't really thinking when I took it it I might would've tried to take a nicer picture. It really bothers me that there's half of a blurry car in the background. I still think the car is pretty cool though!

Dad's truck

f/5.0
1/160
ISO 100

This wasn't a picture I intended on taking, but I saw it in my dad's yard and thought it was a possibility for my mode of transport picture for my photo challenge. I obviously didn't use it because it sucks but I think it could be cool if I re took it with a 70-200 or the bigma to get a creamy background. I had a 28-123 when I took this so it's not as awesome as it could be. I'll try to re take it to see what I can do when I get a chance.

Volkswagen

f/6.3
1/15
ISO 1250

This is cool I guess. Paige wanted to take a picture of my dad's old Volkswagen for her photo challenge so we set this up and I just took some for fun. We had a tripod and I set my camera to bulb and went with it. On this particular picture my camera wasn't on bulb but I brought my shutter speed down so that'd it'd still get the same effect. I had a lot of fun playing around with this.

Painting with light

f/3.5
8.0
ISO 100

This is ANOTHER picture that Paige and I took while we were playing around with photo challenge stuff. We had fun that weekend, obviously. Well, I'm not exactly sure who took this picture but it was on my card so I'm claiming it. My dad found some rope lights and he just swung it around while my camera was set on bulb and I think it turned out cool. I really liked painting with light.

Ghost Paige

f/3.5
5.0
ISO 100

This is another picture that Paige and I took when we were experimenting for our photo challenge stuff. I wanted to try to do this, but I'm not sure what it's called. I just set my camera to bulb, held the shutter open, and covered up the lens when Paige needed to change spots around the room. It didn't take very many tries, and I am happy with the result. I think the actual picture isn't spooky at all because Paige doesn't look scary. If she was dressed up and the room was darker it could be an awesome setup.

Sound Booth

f/2.8
1/50
ISO 2000

This was a last minute photo for yearbook. There wasn't an assignment made. Pot just told me to grab gear and go take it so I did. It was weird because I had to go get josh from tigervision and everyone in there judged me because I'm awkward but I don't care. I don't really love this picture, and I had to set my ISO to 2000 because I didn't bring a flash. I don't think it looks muddy or anything, but I'm lucky that it's a small picture in the book.

Trebuchet competitions

f/4.5
1/1250
ISO 400

I shot trebuchet competitions during my class period. It wasn't very fun because I couldn't get very close to the trebuchet (schirms rules) and everyone in my class' trebuchets sucked. I don't really like any of my pictures from this assignment, but it'll be okay. If I could reshoot this id like to just disregard the rules and get all up in the trebuchet groups buisness with a 10-24.

Senior pep rally

First off, I had no idea what to do with the gym lights off and all these people wanting to be all centimental and i had to use a flash and crying people and I was the chosen one to be sitting right in front with my flash. I thought the picture was cute, and Sabrina is in it so it obviously is even more cute. She and her friend are in focus, but I don't really like anything else about the picture. It bothers me that the subject isn't in front, and that the guy on the right's arms and legs are in the picture but not his face, and that Sabrina and Canah aren't different from the crowd at all so they don't stand out. It's not terrible, but it's not good,

Drill Team Prayer

I really like this picture. Juniors were assigned to take pictures of drill team's prayer for a spread, and i had the 10-24 for this game, so i thought I'd take advantage of that while everyone else was getting more close up shots. I basically just held my camera up in the air and blind shot. The image is a little underexposed which irritates me because i know how to expose an image properly. If i could re-take it, id try to get the girls closer to me's whole legs into the shot so I'm not wasting the top of the image like  I did. I doubt It'll actually get used on a spread, but i still like the picture or the most part. I think it's really sweet and prayer circle like.

HSTE CPR

HSTE has their own spread this year, so Alyssa and I were assigned to go shoot them practicing CPR during our yearbook period. The teacher was so sweet, but everything about this assignment was awkward. Two awkward people come in to a classroom full of people who are pretending to give CPR to the torso of fake person (minus the arms). It was just weird. At least the baby had arms. Anyway, i got some good pictures, and this room wasn't hard to shoot in. Just like any other classroom in the school.

Egg drop

This whole picture bothers me. Everything about it is boring. The egg drop was nice to get to shoot or whatever, but the place Mr. Harris does it is not ideal for photos, especially because of the building-sized window in the background. This girl's expression is good, I think. It's one of the few expression pictures I got on this assignment. ALSO, I DON'T KNOW WHICH LINE TO MAKE MY PICTURES FROM THIS ASSIGNMENT PARALLEL TO BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY AND EVERY SINGLE LINE TURNS MY PICTURE A DIFFERENT WAY AND IT NEVER LOOKS STRAIGHT. And, yes, that was a run on that i should't be capable of creating in the 11th grade but it was necessary.  Well, i don't really have a lot to say about this one. I honestly have no idea how i'd do it different, especially if i had to shoot it with the window and the lines ugh i just hated it.

CLUDS

I shot this picture to go behind the dominant picture on the spraue spread. It wasn't hard at all, but at first i shot with a 50mm lens and Smith told me to go reshoot it with a 17-50mm.

bonfire

This picture is a silhouette, kind of. My bonfire pictures were terrible. This is pretty much the only one i like, and it isn't even that good. I have no idea what was going on with my focus settings, but I couldn't get anything to focus. I should've just asked but for some reason I didn't think to do that. Somehow, Pot likes this picture as the dominant for the bonfire, which i'm assigned to (YB editor and photog).

Pink out

f/4
1/125
ISO 1600
This picture is from the Pink Out Pep Rally. Apparently rapping is all anyone could think of doing, but it's fine because I think I got some decent pictures. At this pep rally, I tried to make the majority of my pictures have a fuzzy background because that's the look Potter is going for. I think this picture could be more interesting, but I'm extremely happy with the way Miles pops off the background. In order to make this shallow depth of field effect, I bumped my aperture all the way down (I was using a 70-200) and shot at around 150-200mm. I'm happy with the photos i took, but i wish they could've been more interesting.

Hoshki at Halftime

f/2.8
1/250
ISO 800
I love this picture. I took this sitting under the drum major stand during halftime of our last home game. I haven't ever gotten in this spot before, but I did gotten a similar picture of another marimba player at a previous game and I knew what I needed to do to make it the image I wanted. I pretty much had to sit and wait for the right moment (when his mallets were raised), but it was just a plus that in the spot I chose the subject has to look straight up to see the drum major. I think it really adds to the photo. I just wish i would've processed this image in time for the ATPI deadline.

Swimmy

f/2.8
1/320
ISO 1000
This picture is alright. I didn't get any super cool or out of the ordinary pictures from this particular assignment, but it was my first swim meet so I guess it's alright. I really liked shooting swim, but i wish i could think of a way to make the photos more interesting. The only challenging thing about this was the lighting in the building. It was super weird. Everything else, however, was pretty good. (other than the tighter than skin tight speedos mixed with hairy legs) I could literally go anywhere but in the water as long as i wasn't in the way of the timer people. It was nice. I think if i shoot swim again I'll play with my settings a little bit more because almost all of my images were a tiny bit under exposed.

Spider

f/2.8
1/100
ISO 250
This picture was just something i took on my own. I was looking out the window in the morning before church and I saw this awesome spider web with rain drops on it since it had rained the night before. Of course, i went and got my camera, but i didn't realize that there might be a HUGE spider on the web. Spiders creep me out. AND, i shot with a 17-50 so i'm actually closer to this spider than it looks.. :((( Anyway, i guess it's a cool picture. I wish i would've gotten closer to the spider so it'd be a really cool picture and this spider was fuzzy so that'd make it even more cool but lolz that's just a wish for a reason, Right?

Kitty Pumpkin

f/5.6
2.0
ISO 200
Well, this picture was technically an assignment that Potter gave Sydney and I during class one day. Maggie's mom carved an awful cat into this poor pumpkin, and it was almost hard to keep a straight ace while shooting it. This was the first time I've ever shot anything in the studio, and Sydney set most everything up since we were in a hurry and i really had no idea what to do. We ended up just having Sydney and Alyssa set off a flash on either side of the pumpkin while I held down the shutter for like 15-20 seconds to get the whole timed exposure light in my pumpkin kind of effect. I really want to learn more about studio stuff. Really, i just wand to be told what everything is and what it does and be let loose and see what cool tricks and whatnot i can figure out on my own before I offically learn things. You have to compliment my marvelous job of spreading out the spider web that the pumpkin is sitting on, though.

MIC club

f/2.8
1/80
ISO 1600
This picture is of a member of MIC club keeping an old lady in a nursing home company after painting her nails. I was told that i wasn't allowed to get any of the elderly's faces in my pictures due to privacy laws, so that really took the creativity option out of this assignment. I like this picture because you can tell that the two subject are engaged in conversation, even though one of their faces isn't shown. I think another reason i like this picture (don't judge) is because when i was little, i spent a lot of time at my Granny's house, and when i took a bath there there was only one towel i would use, and it was the exact same print of the old lady's shirt in this picture. Like same colors and stripes and everything. I know thats not relevant, but this is my blog sooo hehe
